Sangre De Cristo

The San Luis Valley of Colorado and Northern New Mexico is a magnet for UFO sightings, alternative spiritual movements, orthodox religion, cults, and conspiracy. As the largest alpine valley in the world, stretching roughly 122 miles between the San Juan Mountains to the west and the Sangre de Cristo or “Blood of Christ” Mountains to the east, named by Spanish conquistadores in the eighteenth century it carries both a monumental physical presence and a dense psychological weight.

This ongoing body of work explores the nature of belief and the ways faith, in any form, takes hold of a person. Through images made in the Valley’s landscape and communities, the work examines the human impulse to search for meaning, revelation, and belonging.
